Antenna placement

Postby msmoore » Thu Nov 24, 2011 4:17 pm

Hello,

I have 2 base stations, the SP 922PRO & EP-490. I recently updated to the SP 922 Pro and I'm having issues with the range of the base station. I'm trying to figure out where the base stations and the antennas should be properly placed.

Attached are pictures showing where they are placed.

In addition, I'm looking for any techs who can help us on the Big Island of Hawaii. Any ideas?

I didn't do the original installations, so I don't know which antenna goes to which base station. I figure we're going to have to bring the whole thing down. I was present when a few years back we tried to put one antenna on its own rod on another side of the building and that did not extend the range of the antenna. However, none of us know enough to know how to do this in the first place, so that's why I'm looking for a professional to help us out.

Mahalo,

Engenius recommends antennas to be separated at least 30 feet apart to reduce interference between the base stations. You have them on the same pole so they are not separated enough. If and when both bases are in use, they will both reduce each others range. If you power one off and still have poor range, then you have a different problem.Attached are pictures showing where they are placed.

I know one dealer who covers the entire USA and will be out in Hawaii soon for other work. MJM Communications 813-792-8236 ask for Matt.I didn't do the original installations, so I don't know which antenna goes to which base station. Check the cable run from base station to antenna and see if there are any lightning protectors in line. If there are, temporarily bypass it (take it out of line) and if it improves. Many times the lightning protection fuse can be blown.

Also, how far are you currently getting right now and how far are you needing to get?

Thanks for the info. We moved the one antenna off the the same pole. They are now separate at least 30 feet away from each other. That seems to be the trick. I'm finding I can get clear calls with just the small regular antenna at places that required the long antenna and the calls had much static. Thanks for the advice. I'm wondering if I should have the tech come here and look at our situation anyways, to make sure they were are getting the best out of it.
